Website Maintenance - When should I update my website?

Your website can be a very powerful marketing tool for your business, but only if you keep it current, which in turn will keep visitors and search engines supplied with new information. If the content on your website is not current, then your site becomes less effective and less likely to be found by search engines or potential clients.

By keeping your content updated, potential customers will keep coming back to find out what is new. Search engines regularly visit websites in their queue but if they visit three or four times and find no new changes, they may not come back, which can lower you in the rankings.

You might ask, “When should I update my website?”  If you have anything of real value to add to your site such as improved skills including accreditations, licenses, or courses to improve your skills.   Have you added to the products or services you offer?  Include projects you have completed by adding an online portfolio to show the rest of the world what you can do.  Include new testimonials to allow potential clients to read about your successes with past and current clients.  Writing an article(s) is a great way to keep your website up-to-date because not only do search engines seek out content-rich sites, but visitors will enjoy seeing new information as well.  Have you made changes in your business like hiring new employees or changing your business structure?  Finally, take care of yearly checkups which should be done at least once a year ensuring your content is up-to-date. When you do  yearly checkups, make sure that major updates are placed on your home page with a link to the full story that make the search engines follow the link to learn more.

Finally, make it a priority to keep your website current because it can only help in and your business grow by increasing your rankings with the search engines which in turn will bring you more traffic and potentially more business.
